Did they give up on their voucher scheme?

Word is trickling out from lawmakers that the effort to tie an extension of Prop 123 to enshrining private school vouchers in the constitution might not have the votes to pass.
The maga majority at the state capitol has been adamant about not extending $300 million in education funding unless it is coupled with a constitutional right to use public money for private education. Rumor has it there is now just enough resistance to the idea to hold off a resolution vote which combines the two requests.  However, that still leaves the need to renew Prop 123 funding by bringing a clean resolution to both chambers for a vote.  With the House out on vacation until June 4th and a few lawmakers planning to be out of the country on summer vacation at the end of June, it leaves little time for an appropriate, healthy, discussion on funding that follows standard protocol.  Unfortunately the words appropriate, healthy and standard do not describe any actions taken by the legislature this session.
Lawmakers have until June 30th to pass a budget. They could extend the session to pass other legislation but it is doubtful that would happen.
