Expectations were not high for getting too many bills passed by Democrats this legislative session. Given the MAGA majority in both our State House and Senate the overwhelming majority of the 602 bills sponsored by Democrats* were not even granted a hearing.
The following bills are among the small number to pass out of their first chamber, are in process of being assigned to a committee in the second chamber and will hopefully be granted a hearing and a floor vote.
HB2380: Sponsored by Alma Hernandez (LD20) established the Arizona Rare Disease Advisory Council to educate the public. Legislature and other government agencies on the needs of Arizonans living with rare diseases. Chaplik and Kolodin voted NO
HB2559: Sponsored by Lupe Contreras (LD22) makes consistent across statutes where the justification defense can be used in criminal cases regardless.

HB2779: sponsored by Consuelo Hernandez (LD21) requires immediate notification of a juvenile's parents, guardian or custodian if they are taken into temporary custody on school property
* 602 bills have been sponsored by Democrats compared to 1200 sponsored by Republicans

There was hope a bill by Nancy Gutierrez, HB2013, safeguarding school lunches to students would make it out of the House. It made it through Committees and the Committee of the Whole Floor vote but was not granted a final floor vote and looks to be dead. There is an extremely slight chance some procedural jockeying can be done to get this bill to the finish line.
