YES. We have an election this year. Ballots drop October 11. The election is on November 7. The 2023 elections are all about Bonds and Overrides, for both School Districts and Municipalities. The Peoria School District has published a good explanation of the difference between a Bond and an Override: Bonds vs Overrides
An easy mnemonic is:
Bonds = Buildings and Busses
Overrides = Operating Expenses
Eighty-four percent of LD3 voters will get a ballot. Cave Creek Unified SD will not have anything on the ballot this year, but some of our CCUSD voters live in the City of Phoenix which will have a city GO (General Obligation) Bond for voters to approve. The GO Bond of $500 million will “fund critical infrastructure and rehabilitation needs of City facilities such as parks, libraries, fire and police stations, affordable housing, streets and storm drains.”
The City of Phoenix has not yet released the Informational Packet for voters, but they have produced a summary. The bond is not expected to change the existing tax rate. Phoenix GO Bond FAQs
Supporting our schools and local government means doing the work to ensure our voters understand what is at stake and getting out their vote. If your area has no election, it means helping an area that does.
