Data Snacks: Independents have landed

The Maricopa County and AZ Secretary of State, Adrian Fontes, have released the April Voter Registration data. The good news: We’re Still the Biggest!

Legislative District 3 has the largest number of voters of any in Arizona. In January, LD3 was less than 250 voters ahead of LD17 in Pima and Pinal Counties. LD17 shrank and LD3 grew. We now have just over 177,000 voters.

A small reduction in the number of registered Democrats after a successful election is to be expected. That happened. We have 40 fewer. Registered Republicans went down in the state but up a bit in the county and in our district.

And… the newly certified No Labels party has voters for the first time. The state reported 14 No Labels on April 1. By May 10, Maricopa County alone is reporting over 1600. They are showing up in LD8, LD9 and LD5. LD3 has the lowest number.

What is startling in the new numbers – to the point of looking like an error – is about 92% of the increase in voters in Maricopa County are registered for NO PARTY. For LD3, it’s 99.6%, rounded to 100%. We can handle this with our plan to always include Independents in everything we do. Westworld, Fountain Hills, Coyote Basin and Boulder Mountain are already rolling with it.

Eight of our 58 precincts increased Democrats faster than Republicans. Each of them is traditionally very conservative:

LONE MOUNTAIN

MOUNTAINSIDE

LOMA VERDES

POWDERHORN RANCH

GRANITE MOUNTAIN

DESERT HIGHLANDS

FOUNTAIN HILLS

VISTA VERDE

PS. Sadly, our two Democrats in Tortilla Flat are gone.
